Meh. haven't done much (or any, really) worldbuilding since last entry, because of getting sidetracked by Raymond E. Feist. Bastard.

I've come to the realisation that I need to work out at least the basic plot first of all, then work out details of the characters and the map from there. Fun times! Except not. I'm also tweaking a lot of the societal things I'd built before, because of brain-gears set in motion by the NaNo forums. Grrr. And now I'm thinking about changing the basic plot, or at least adding to it, because the NaNo forums made me start thinking about the elven society and the tension between the Enclave elves and the Empire elves, and hmmmm ...

This is becoming less and less the Unapologetically Cliché Fantasy Novel I had in mind, but hey, still catering to my own kinks and preferences, so that's all right.

Less than two weeks 'till November. Pardon me while I run around like a headless chicken.

Ugh, I do my greatest best to stay out of the forums at all costs. I want this to be my novel, not everybody elses. But that's just me ofcourse.

Map ? The area around lake Coniston, UK. Been there this summer.
Plot ? Old 'man' (alien in disguise) shows up 500 years ago searching for a 'ship' he lost in the lake.
People think he is nuts and avoid him.
He dissapears and his house becomes vacant and people think it's haunted.
Kids play near the house and make a sign 'The Ship in the lake'.
Lightning strikes the house and it burns down, all that is found is part of the sign 'The Ship in/'.
300 years ago, someone founds a pub and calls it 'The Ship inn'.
Current day, researcher visits pub, talks to owner, no ship near the pub, the current owner has no idea why his pub is called 'The Ship inn'. (That was me asking that btw. The pub really exists !)
Researcher does some research and spits out the story.
As all my books, I don't want to know the finale until I actually write it. My mood at the moment will decide if the lake is searched, a ship is found, or whatever. (I do like cover up stories, like Sphere, where at the end of the story the ship is either gone or never found so I can keep people puzzled at weather the story is real or not, yet I don't want anyone to start looking for a spaceship in the damn lake).
So I did do some thinking, I know where to start. I just need to fill up the gaps with bullshit until I reach 50.000 words. If I get stuck I can still go back to narrate the story of the Alien himself, although at the moment I prefer him to be a myth rather than an actual character. I haven't decided if he speaks English or not, and/or if he ever talked to the locals, somehow he must have, how else would they know he was looking for a ship in the lake. How and where did he learn English ? How many people has he spied upon and how many of them know ? How long had he studied our planet before his fatal landing in the lake ? Why did he crash ? How did he build his house, where and how did he earn/get money ? Well, tons of deception shit I don't feel like working out at the moment. That's the fun stuff of creativity, not having a fucking clue until you actually write it, and thus reading and writing a story at the same time.
I'm not saying that's a good idea, last time I only made it to 20.000 words. That was two years ago, I got to know you then, you made something like 300 words then if I remember correctly. I see you're making a serious effort this time. I'm hoping for you that you'll make it. Feel free to call upon me for whatever support you think you'll need. We're in this together.

Ba-kawk! *runs around like a headless chicken right alongside you*

Why is it that once I decide on a plot, the muses see fit too throw about five brand new plotbunnies my way?

Dude, my elf girl is making noises about cannibalism. I am vaguely disturbed, here. Help?

Cool! You could change the name of the novel to Elfsteaks!

I saw you in the Fantasy/Horror forum and you look rather cool, so mind if I friend you? (Oh, and my eyes popped out of my sockets when I first saw that McCaffrey 'tent-peg' quote. What colour is the sky on her planet?)

FWIW, my NaNoWriMo is going to be the HP fanfic I have had brewing in my mind for about a year - needs more structuring before I start, but it's going to be set in Victorian-era Hogwarts and involve murder, the British Empire, and slash. If I get to 50,000 words it'll be a miracle, but I can hope.

Well, no, I had an epiphany yesteray and it actually fits in quite well with some of the premise, and helps to flesh out (if you'll pardon the expression) the tension between the Enclave Elves and the Empire Elves. My biggest problem right now will be avoiding the need to describe this, as I can't even remember what beef or pork tastes like.

Me neither, been veggie for about ten years now. Just describe the texture and the smell, you'll be safe with that I think!

Yes, cannibalism would go a loooong way to explaining tensions between two races! A very nice move.

Yeah, eight years here.

I'm still working out how exactly they came to be this way--I'll have to tweak some of the history a bit--but it's looking good.

Hm. Define link exchange? I don't really link to other people's novels, I'm afraid, I just friend them. :/

All my plot bunnies runned away! *wails* But adding to the plot is always a good thing. I really can't wait to read your book (I can read it when it's done, right?). Good luck with the getting it done part. ^_^ *hands a cookie* Here, chocolate always helps.
