Things I need to buy for NaNo:

  • Food. Enough to restock my cupboards, lots of coffee, nibbly things, fruit, etc.
  • Some sort of "avater" for Breckin (that's my muse, for those of you just tuning in.)
  • New printer (if possible).
  • Digital kitchen timer or some such, to mark fifteen-minute periods when I'm writing somewhere in public, so as to not drive people insane with the sound of my kitchen timer.

The plan for this week is to work out first characters, then rough plot, then a new version of the map (and possibly a slightly tweaked version of the history), while moving my sleep cycle back two hours, so I'll go to bed at 22:30 and wake up at 04:30. That'll give me two hours before work to write, plus of course the two hours on the train. If that works, I'm hoping I can keep that schedule up from then on.

If I follow the schedule I have in mind, I can write for about 2-4 hours on weekdays, four hours on Saturday, and six on Sundays, and on the weekdays during the second week, which I have off work, I ought to be able to write about eight hours, either at home or in coffeeshops, pubs, or wherever. That would put me at about 100,000-120,000 words at the end of the month, and crossing the 50,000 line around the 15th.

I hope.

Good luck and Godspeed! I ahve serious doubts that I'll be able to finish my own at all...but I'll try!!

So, how'd you get your Muse to tell you his/her name or identify themselves in any other solid manner???

It wasn't a matter of "getting to tell" as much as of "being informed", really. My first muse retired when I was about sixteen, and then Breckin took over. (Took over my BRAIN, that is.)

16 hours and counting for us younglady! I guess it will be pretty much radio silence from then on. Although I'll try to keep an eye on the progress of the other locals, I don't want to get too envyous from falling too far behind on everybody else.

So, good luck just the same, and for those friends only book fragments, I'd doubt if I would really have the time to read them, but if it's not too much trouble, then please count me in.

Ok, so I'm a bit worried about you, seeing how you did all this preparation and I wouldn't like to see you fail this time. It's my third time attempt to write a book and you know what they say about third times, I'll be trying to pull myself forward knowing that less than 100 miles away, someone is probably suffering just the same.

Which means I'll come and poke you if I see you're getting stuck somewhere.

Godspeed partner !

Thanks for the concerns. :) I have an opening line and most of the rough worldbuilding I need, so it'll mostly be a matter of keeping good notes while actually writing.

Now if I just knew if Delhaize will be open tomorrow ...

I kind of doubt it. I could use drinks actually. Our local supermarket is open on Sunday so I can still drop in there, I hope. For emergencies there is Shop 24, or perhaps some of the night shops, Antwerp sure must have some of those too.

As for wrimo, I have two separate opening stories, and I roughly know what I want. I'll just need to bullshit it all together. I have first names for two characters in the first opening story, by the time that is finished I should have made up two more for the second opening story, and I think I'll abuse a friends maiden name for my professor which should make her introduction somewhere near the finale. I have no clue.
It's going to be tough writing a 16th centrury introductionary story (I changed that from 17th to 15th to 16th, I don't seem to have made my mind up yet) without looking up anything about Britain in that era, but I think I'll manage. Fisher village, market, lake, tsunami (but that name didn't exist then so I'll have to bullshit around that). The village people should keep me busy for the first week or so. (YMCA, it's fun to stay at the YMCA :-P )

Night shops are all good and well, but not where I want to get w eek's worth of groceries. :) I went to the Colruyt in my "home town" (quotation marks deliberate), and my dad drove me home with the food.

I've about four pages, handwritten. Not much, but I'll be able to write a lot more tomorrow. :)

Kewl, I just stayed home thinking nothing would be open today. If I'd known Colruyt was... Oh well, I cleaned my thermos can so I can make large amounts of coffee and then take them upstairs to keep me awake, I'm hoping to be able to refill tomorrow. Last nights wrimo surprise was that for some reason I decided my first character to be pregnant when I was as little as 5 words into my book. Did you manage to stick to your plans ?
The daily average should be 1.667 words if you're planning on writing every day. I made it up to 2800 or something, a good start too I think. Keep up the good work.

Wow...I'm joining on NaNo, too...good luck with your writing! Hopefully I'll get mine done, but it looks like you're on top of things. How you've managed that is a gerat wonder.
